which originates from the early 18th century...

...and surrounds the ruins of an old corn mill, with ponds, stream, canal and waterfalls and an old lead mine. The garden has a wide variety of plants, shrubs and trees providing colour and interest all year round.

The garden is open each Sunday, Wednesday and Bank Holidays, from April 1st until 30th September. Opening times: 10am - 5pm. Admission Ł3. It can be viewed by arrangement any time throughout the year

The Formal Garden
Through arches covered with roses, clematises and honeysuckles and presided over by two classical statues, Pan and Baccate, the lawn is interspesed with formal mixed shrub and perennial beds.

The House
Built in 1825 for the mill owner's son, Cascades is a charming Georgian house.

The Winter Garden
Here you find plants and shrubs which come into there own because of flower, shape or colour during the winter months.

The Rose Shrubbery
Old English shrub roses are planted here. In the early spring carpets of snowdrops appear, followed by celandines, daffodils and bluebells. In the summer many varieties of hardy geraniums are encouraged to spread.

The Vegetable Patch
This is small but productive. We attempt to be as organic as possible but dealing with the armies of ravenous slugs and snails that rampage here is difficult.

The Glebe
In the spring a patch work of wild flowers appears, together with bluebells and wood anemonies. At the top of the hill you are treated to a stunning view over the countryside to Black Rock.

The Pond
The Bonsall Brook runs into the pond, which is planted with many different water and bog plants.

The Old Mill
The site was known as Water Corn Mill Yard in the 17th and 18th centuries. The mill was then twice as high and twice and wide as the ruin is today
